We have our first official school delay today--school is 2 hrs late due to winter weather. We actually only got an inch or less of snow, but that is on top of a nice layer of ice we got first. Just an hour to the north of us they got 5-6" of snow and today the winds are going to be blowing at a nice 30 mph clip. That means it still looks like it is snowing and the roads drift over. When hubby left for work this morning, travel was not advised at all. Now it looks like road conditions have improved but the wind is still howling and the windchill is in the teens.
Where my mom works, they follow the school weather dismissals. Yesterday schools were getting out early because it had started snowing already, so she got to come home early. Now today the school up there has a 2 hr delay which she is hoping will turn into a full cancellation--all the other surrounding schools have cancelled.
I haven't even told Emma yet that school is late; I let her sleep in. I'm sure she will figure it out when she looks at the clock and sees it is almost 8 am.
My big plans for the day? Cleaning. How fun is that?!

Unfortunately, OK lies in an ice band. We have lucked out two years in a row: one storm went south and one went north. We are pretty much guarenteed a week without power if we get hit.
They only plow the arteries here, too. Residental streets are left as is. PITA.
Snow delays, snow days... so much fun when I was a kid... I dread them now...
